Protein bars can be a convenient, portable option that help provide quick energy, and can contribute to your daily protein needs.
There are hundreds of options on the market, which can make it hard to know which ones are truly supportive versus just well-marketed. The category continues to grow, and not all bars are created equally in terms of ingredients, protein quality, or overall nutrition.
This is why I’ve compiled a list of my go-to protein bars that strike a better balance between taste and nourishment.
Here’s what I recommend, based on taste, nutrition, ingredients, certifications, and protein quality.
My Process For Selecting The Best Bars
Gravitate towards bars with:
- Short and recognizable ingredient list
- High-quality ingredients
- Well-balanced macronutrients and energy content (protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and sugars)
- A good amount of protein (5 grams or more)
Minimize bars with
- High amounts of added sugar
- Low levels of protein or fiber (under 5 grams)
- Artificial sweeteners (sucralose, aspartame)
I choose bars that taste good, have a good consistency and texture, and
contribute protein, to support blood sugar and protein needs.
